Arlen Dean

Hello! I am an assistant professor of Supply Chain, Operations, and Technology at the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis. Prior to joining Olin, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School. I earned my Ph.D. in Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan.

My research centers on data-driven decision-making in complex and uncertain environments. Drawing on optimization and machine learning, I design algorithms that guide real-time operational decisions and study how AI can best support the people who use it. Much of my work is motivated by applications in healthcare and revenue management.
